Some of the construction news I have encountered or collected this week that I found interesting.
- Tragic news out of Atlanta this week where a construction worker on a Habitat for Humanity project was killed in a sewer trench collapse. According to the report, neither wooden planks nor steel plates were used to hold back the earth while digging trenches. The AGC Bookstore, keyword “Excavation,” has available The Excavation & Trenching Training Manual & CD-ROM to work in combination with "In the Trenches: Excavation Safety for Workers" DVD and "Construction Standards for Excavation." According to OSHA, excavating is recognized as one of the most hazardous construction operations. Tragic reminder to review your practices today.
